BacTreat Environmental Solutions Private Limited, established in 2015 in Goa, India, is a leading clean-tech company specializing in decentralized, nature-based solutions for wastewater treatment and resource recovery from organic waste. Founded by Dr. Srikanth Mutnuri (Professor, BITS Pilani K K Birla Goa Campus) and Dr. Anasuya Ganguly, BacTreat translates cutting-edge academic research into scalable, field-ready technologies.

The company’s flagship innovation is Wetland Assisted Treatment Technology (WATT) – a tropical-adapted two-stage Vertical Flow Constructed Wetland. It treats raw domestic sewage without primary clarification, delivering 90% COD and 84–88% BOD removal with an ultra-compact footprint of just 0.79 m² per person. Successfully implemented across India, WATT systems serve single households, 100-PE communities, schools, apartment complexes, public toilets (Bogmalo Beach), and large-scale plants (1 MLD in Hubli).

In addition, BacTreat provides faecal sludge management through lactic acid fermentation and vermicomposting to produce Terra Preta compost, and anaerobic digestion systems for food waste and septage that generate biogas and phosphate-rich organic manure (PROM). The company also supplies custom bacterial cultures for enhanced bioremediation.

With a strong focus on sustainability, low energy use, and circular economy principles, BacTreat is enabling affordable, resilient water and waste solutions for rural and urban India.
